Although the word manufacture embraces a whole range of industries, for the moment, we’ll concentrate on just the one – car manufacture.

Over the years, STG have made deliveries to all the major manufacturers – BMW Oxford, Honda Swindon, Toyota Derby, Vauxhall Luton/Ellesmere Port etc. Our closest relationship has been with Nissan Sunderland, where STG have managed the logistics on all recent large press arrivals. Overseas plants have included  Saab Uusikaupunki, Finland, Fiat Foggia, Italy and Ferrari Modena, Italy.

The product range stretches from changing over press dies between plants in the UK and Germany – to paint shop lines, robots, presses etc. In one case, a complete production line from Lublin in Poland to Birmingham – an exercise involving over four hundred trailers.

With one manufacture, who will remain nameless, on a movement from Germany to the UK, there were twenty four vehicles involved. To be absolutely on the safe side, the company insisted that all the loads appeared in the car park, before the production line shut down and installation started – even though it was a million to one chance, in the very extreme case that one of the vehicles had been involved in an accident on route.

Moving into other areas, food manufacture has played a prominent part. One of the more interesting projects was the Kellogg’s breakfast cereal factory from Svedberg Denmark, in part to Barcelona Spain, the other half to Manchester UK.
