Moving Oversized Equipment Where Standard Transport Fails
Not all cargo can be moved using conventional trailers or standard routing.
In earlier projects, STG managed the movement of large excavators and plant equipment that exceeded normal transport limits, requiring a combination of barge transport and crane transfer before continuing by road.
In another case, large dump trucks manufactured in Scotland could not be transported using available trailers, so they were driven under their own power after being shipped by RoRo ferry, occupying the full width of the road during transit.
These types of solutions continue to shape how heavy transport is approached today, particularly in areas like Luton where infrastructure constraints can dictate the method of delivery.
Structuring Luton Freight Beyond a Single Mode
For complex movements, relying on one transport method is often not practical.
STG structures Luton freight using combinations of road, sea, and inland transport depending on the cargo and route. This approach has been used in projects where equipment travelled by barge to European ports before being transferred to road transport for final delivery.
In more challenging environments, STG has shipped both cargo and the required transport equipment together, such as delivering a full rig alongside a heavy press into Ghana where no suitable trailers were available locally.
